Helping with the Wedding

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

I am looking around for a good, yet inexpensive photographer in Houston. My niece is getting married there in a couple of months. I basically raised her and I am trying to help her with as much wedding things as possible. She met the man she is going to marry at the university they are both attending in California. They decided to have the wedding in Texas because both sets of his grandparents want to be there, but cannot travel very far. It has been sort of difficult planning the wedding from a few states away, but we are making due. My niece is so happy and I want to do anything I can to help her. Besides finding someone to do the pictures we also need to find a good baker for the cake. Some friends recommended that I just use a big chain bakery since it will be less expensive.

Few Tips To Achieve Extraordinary Portraits

Friday, August 6th, 2010

We all know what a good portrait is. We have seen thousands and thousands of portraits that follow the basic rules of portrait studio lighting. Of course every photographer needs to know and follow the basic lighting techniques like Rembrandt Lighting and Hatchet Lighting. However, this is not enough to make extraordinary portraits. Here are few tips to take stunning portraits:
- Break the “Rule of Thirds” – we all know this basic composition rule. Most of the times we get excellent results. However, braking this rule can sometime produce amazing results – for instance try to place your subject on the edge of the frame.
- Change your perspective – 90% of the portraits are taken with the camera placed at the eye level of the subject. Next time try to place your camera high and shoot down on your subject.
- Don’t always have your subject looking down the lens. For instance, a model looking off camera will make the viewer curious what he or she is looking at.
- Use your imagination and don’t rely heavily on rules. The beauty of photography is not only to capture the light but also to capture the moment!
