We Just Love Our New Kelty Beach Tent

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

We just got back from the most fun family beach vacation ever! After spending hours looking for the best beach tents we finally ended up with just the right one. We were looking for a beach tent that was large enough for a couple of people but still compact enough to be easy to pack in the car and carry to the beach. My husband was sold on the large Eureka solar tent but I wanted the Grand Trunk Cielo. It turned out that neither were in stock and could only be back ordered. We were leaving for Florida in 2 days!

Our New Kelty Tent We ended up getting the Kelty Cabana from REI and couldn’t be happier! The Kelty beach tent is huge, yet super lightweight. It was large enough for us to set our table up under it along with a couple of beach chairs which was so nice.

The whole idea of a beach shade was to prevent sun burns but we all got them anyway. Apparently you have to stay under the beach tent 100% of the time if you want 100% sun protection.

SPF 50 would have probably been better than the SPF15 too. Oh well, lessons learned.

It has also earned the title “Asia’s Latin City” because the local dialect in Zamboanga City called Chabacano is a blend of Spanish, Tagalog and Cebuano. The title “Asia’s Latin city” is also well-earned since here in Zamboanga City you can see traces of its colonial history not only in its dialect but also in its cuisine, architecture, even its airport. Things to do in Zamboanga City: Water sports and swimming Zamboanga is proud of its beautiful white sand beaches and most particularly of the exceptional white and sand beach in Greater Sta Cruz Island. Other beaches that encircle Zamboanga and the islands close by are ideal for all types of water sports other than swimming in the cerulean blue waters. Snorkeling and scuba diving in the extensive coral reefs formation of the area are two of the more popular water sports that Zamboanga offers its visitors. Sea boarding, water-kiting, water-skating, banana boating are other water sports activities that can be enjoyed in Zamboanga. Other beaches that has gained repute are the white sand beach of Little Sta Cruz Island and the La Vista del mar Beach. Sight Seeing Tourist visiting Zamboanga City will enjoy a sight- seeing tour of the city because of its many places of interests. Two of the most notable sights are the Pasonanca Park, a nature lover’s paradise with its beautiful tree house built on top of the highest tree, an abundance of flowers, ferns, shrubs and trees, an aviary with the Philippine Monkey – eating eagle as its star and a butterfly sanctuary. Another must- do is a trek up the Abong-Abong Ecumenical Hill where from its top one can have a panoramic view of the city. Go on a historical and cultural tour Zamboanga is one place in the Philippines where the traces of its Spanish heritage is still very much in evidence from its Chabacano dialect to some of its edifices. To have a deeper insight into Zamboanga’s and the Philippine history, a visit to the Fort Pilar is highly recommended. Fort Pilar is considered a National Cultural Treasure and it houses a very comprehensive museum of Zamboanga’s distinctive culture and heritage. Another historical landmark is Plaza Pershing.

Oh the Ways You Can Go

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

I met my husband when he was attending college. The same one I graduated from, but I had escaped by two years before him. He was an engineer, and loved what he considered to be the romance of steam and moving machinery and the “heart” of a device, rather than the wizardry and smoke of circuit boards and electricity as we experience it today. He described to me what “steampunk” was, and we even attended a few parties dressed in silly costumes glorifying the age of steam. So when I told him I grew up in a town with a historic museum dedicated specifically to trains, I think he decided to propose to me then. And we went on my birthday one year, and I must say that there is something still so poignant about that way of travel. It reminds us of both progress and slower times all at the same time.

Things Can Be Simplified to a Great Extent These Days

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Lisa was at work. She was telling her friend that she wanted to leave early from work today, as she had to get a studio picture clicked. Her friend asked her for details. Lisa told her that she needed a passport sized recent photo of her for some important work. Her friend suggested that she took the picture from her digital camera and then got copies made. Since Lisa had just got into work, she was looking very fresh. She asked her friend to take a picture of her and saved it on a usb. In the evening after work she went to the photo studio. She told the person in the photo studio that she needed to get her photograph resized. He asked her the size that she preferred. She told him that she wanted a passport digital photo. He took the usb from her and opened the file that had her photo in it. It took him 10 minutes to resize it and change the contrast settings. Finally he gave the print command and gave her the copies. She paid him the amount due and went home.

Fancy a trip to Worcester? Well I can tell you this, a stay in Worcester Hotels is simply fantastic, the 4 and 5 star hotels in Worcester are second to none for the price. My wife and I recently stayed in a 4 star hotel and my best friend and his wife stayed in a 5 star hotel, both pretty similar in price and both I would say should be five star plus!

The service received was simply amazing for the price, you got room service included in the price of the stay and everything and I mean everything was simply spotless I couldn’t find a speck of dirt anywhere. Every day the beds were made with fresh linen and clean towels and dressing gowns and the fridge restocked with whatever we had used the night before, and the best bit all of this was included within the price of the stay!
